about

The sacred songs of Miyako Island, Okinawa, is usually called Kamiuta.
Together with the dance, Kamiuta is not only sung by women in the holy place called Utaki during the ceremony. but also it is sung at the houses or the family events. There are numbers of different songs dedicated to the gods and appreciation of livings.

This recording was conducted in the area called Karimata district in Miyako Island where Hide Karimata still lives.
